The Statistics Clinic
If you’re carrying out research and are in need of help, access advice on:
- Study design
- Sample size calculations
- Analysis, interpretation and presentation of data
- And many other statistical issues
Is it for me?
The statistics clinic is open to anyone considering or undertaking funded research projects.
When and where?
The statistical clinics take place on Tuesdays in our offices on 60 Merrion Square, Dublin 2.
Online booking. Or call Olivier on (01) 6612 467.
How much does it cost?
A 45 minute session costs €200 including VAT and is payable by cash or cheque at the time. You might find that this cost is recoverable from research funding provided to your project. Please check this with your grant holder in advance!
The fees charged are at the commercial consulting rate and are necessary in order to ensure the sustainability and effective administration of the service at a professional level.
What do I need to bring with me?
Bring along any material you feel is relevant to the advice you are seeking. For example, if you would like a sample size calculation (to estimate the number of individuals required for your study), then bring information about the primary outcome of interest. If the outcome is continuous, we’ll require an estimate of the variability of this outcome in the group you plan to study. Please take along to the meeting any literature that you have found helpful or may inform your research design/sample size.
What should I expect to get out of it?
The key purpose of this service is to improve the quality of statistics used in research. The advice will help you in clarifying your research question, design your study, choose an appropriate method of analysis or interpret your findings. Additional services, such as data collation, data entry and the writing of research reports are outside of the scope of this clinic. But other experts in Insight Statistical Consulting can assist with these matters.
