We have undertaken the Annual Business Survey of Economic Impact on behalf of Forfas for the past three years.

  • A mixed mode data collection methodology is successfully used to obtain responses from approximately 5,000 agency-assisted Irish and foreign companies based in Ireland, i.e. mail, phone and internet.
  • A response rate in excess of 50% covers approximately 75% of all employees and a complex weighting methodology is used to extrapolate results for the population of companies.
  • In 2007, these companies accounted for over €100bn of exports from Ireland.

The final report provides aggregated estimates for all Irish-owned and foreign-owned firms that are clients of the development agencies, across a range of variables such as total sales, total exports, expenditure on wages, salaries and related costs, purchases of raw materials and services in Ireland. It provides an overview of the evolution of manufacturing and internationally-traded services sectors over recent years.

In addition to the above central economic study, we also undertake ad hoc economic studies for Enterprise Ireland, Shannon Development and Udaras na Gaeltachta.
